The UK’s leading trade directory, Checkatrade have partnered with McDonald’s UK&I to launch the new McDonald’s Bacon Roll.
A selection of Checkatrade members were invited to the McDonald’s headquarters in East Finchley to undertake a blind taste test designed to crown the best bacon roll on the high street.
A panel of trades including decorators, electricians and plumbers compared six bacon rolls from popular high street brands, giving written feedback and providing a rating out of five.
The McDonald’s roll reigned supreme with nine out of ten placing it in the top spot based on appearance, flavour and price, beating off competition from several household names.
The partnership with McDonald’s joins a growing list of marquee collaborations for Checkatrade, including, TalkSport and FIX Radio.
Mike Fairman, CEO of Checkatrade, commented on the test: “Our trades have to go through a rigorous process to be listed on our site, making them trustworthy, reliable and recommended judges of character. We knew when McDonald’s asked us to be part of this test, that our tradespeople would be the perfect people to give the seal of approval. The panel had the long but enviable task of putting each roll through its paces with the McDonald’s Bacon roll getting a big thumbs up from our tradesmen and women”.
Duncan Cruttenden, Food Development Director at McDonald’s UK&I, said: “The bacon roll is the breakfast of choice for millions and I am delighted to launch our new and improved version to customers across the UK and Ireland. The Checkatrade members feedback speaks for itself, and whether you’re a ketchup or brown sauce person, I hope our customers agree that this Bacon Roll is a great addition to our breakfast menu.”
The McDonald’s Bacon Roll has been overhauled with a new and improved recipe, now featuring three rashers of bacon on a sourdough-style bun with your choice of brown sauce or ketchup. Andrea Giammaria, of RTEQ Ltd commented on the sandwich: “I was really surprised to see the McDonald’s bacon roll came out on top. I usually head to the local café but I actually preferred the taste and texture of the McDonald’s roll in the test – the buns are really soft too which is why it scored so highly on the day – I know where I’ll be going in the mornings from now on!”.
