Lightning Protection – Don’t wait for a strike
Heightsafe is one of the UK’s leading Lightning Protection specialists. The company has an abundance of dedicated experts that specifically deals with these systems and have installed and tested them within a variety of environments. With the UK experiencing between 200,000 to 300,000 lightning strikes a year, it is essential to make sure your Lightning Protection systems are up to date, coherent and installed properly. Without regular testing and inspection of these systems, various elements of tall buildings such as physical assets, electronic components and the building’s occupants would all be exposed to the dangers of a lightning strike. A direct hit from a lightning strike could have serious ramifications, such as a fire.
Heightsafe are also experienced at working on Lightning Protection Systems for smaller buildings. The Lightning Protection division regularly works on systems installed at supermarkets and retail stores, as well as office and industrial facilities.
Heightsafe always encourages its clients to have routine checks on their Lightning Protection Systems to ensure they are correct and work efficiently. Thanks to Heightsafe’s experienced Lightning Protection team, they carry out tests and inspections to the highest standard within a short timeframe.
All Lightning Conductor systems installed post-2008 are required, under the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989, to be tested in accordance with BS EN 62305:2011. The act maintains that it is the duty of the employer/self-employed individual to comply with regulations and ensure that all Lightning Protection equipment is tested and inspected at fixed intervals.
Heightsafe recommends that retests of Lightning Protection Systems are conducted every 11 months to ensure that your Lightning Conductor is fully compliant throughout the year. All of Heightsafe’s Lightning Protection personnel have undergone extensive training in line with BS EN 62305:2011 and can provide a full turnkey package or a standalone service. Once the tests have been completed, Heightsafe provides clients with certificates confirming the equipment is compliant and safe to use. If any remedial works are required following the tests, such as replacing or upgrading existing equipment, Heightsafe can also do this for the end-user. Lightning Conductor tests can also be combined with annual or 6 monthly inspections of your Work at Height Safety Lines, Eyebolts, Abseil Points, Access Ladders, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) or Edge Protection.
